Q & A With Uncle Sam’s Flying Circus
Question; just Who is Uncle Sam’s flying Circus, anyway?
Answer; We are just a small collection of Patriots and military veterans, specifically Air Force vets – whom realized the greatest Air Force in the world isn’t quite so well run. Almost to the point of being comical. Some things most certainly are comical.
Q; What do you mean by ‘comical’ can you give an example?
A; Well, This Air Force vet’s first experience: Having transferred from the US Navy into the US Air Force – due to “Reduction in Force” cuts – On my first days there I attended a rather irreverent retirement “ceremony”- for a Full Bird Colonel, no less, conducted by my CO, a Lieutenant Colonel – who proceeded to bust this colonel up and down and every which way. It was quite amazing…this type of thing I never would have seen in the Navy. It didn’t end there. The colonel in question was of a short stature – shall we say – and my CO concluded the event by gifting the Colonel golf putter. A shortened putter I just happen to have been tasked with making earlier in the day.
Q: Surely you jest.
A: not at all – in fact, Starting the whole show off, he told a joke – which sums up perfectly the Air Forces’ inclination. It goes something like this;
Most anyone who ever served in the US Military knows each branch has different words of acronyms for the same meaning. Take the term “Secure that Building,” for example:
The Navy would turn off all the lights, lock the doors and go home.
The Army would set up a perimeter and post several Sentries in 6 hour shifts 24/7
The Marines would set up a perimeter, install a 6’ steel chain link fence, with barbed wire, patrolled 24/7 by armed teams of 6 with Humvees, and, if necessary, motion cameras and Claymore Mines.
The Air Force would sign a 10 year lease with an option to buy after 5 years.
Q: Are there REALLY such differences between the different US Military branches?
A: unfortunately – YES. Unbelievably so. Actually so much so that even the facilities of different branches differ wildly. For Example, Having been assigned to Navy, Army and Air Force bases, it is clear there is a much different standard the Air Force employs – and it is NOT only due to the Air Force being younger. It is because the Air Force is run differently.
Q: Differently? In what way?
A: Having been a reservist, myself, both Active Duty and Selected Reserve, I had worked in the civilian world. For a Fortune 500 company, no less. And having seen much from the “inside” as
my job involved building maintenance and operations – I got a full dose of how Military and Corporate organizations – Large organizations run, And I can testify the Air Force is run more like a Fortune 500 company than 240+ year old military organization.
As such, I have nicknamed The Air Force “The Corporation.” Of course, “The Chair Force” is fitting as well!
